This paper focuses on the development of algorithms capable of providing route suggestions to multiple users travelling simultaneously, such that the (negative) impacts of the routes are minimised. We refer to these kinds of routes as system-aware routes. If multiple travellers are concurrently following the same route in a street network, for example, there is likely to be traffic congestion. However, if the same set of travellers are distributed over multiple roads/routes, the traffic flow is maintained and negative effects, such as increased CO2 emissions, are reduced.
